Scholarship Committee Files 1971-1987.

Box 1 contains minutes of the committee from 1973-1981. Boxes 2-5 contain individual files for each scholarship recipient, arranged alphabetically. The country of origin is noted, followed by the country in which studies or pastorates were undertaken if different from the country of origin. The word exchange is added if the scholarship recipient was an exchange pastor rather than a student. There are scholarship files for students from Brazil, Cameroun, Ethiopia, India, Japan, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Norway, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Taiwan, and Tanzania, with studies in France, India, Nigeria, and the United States. The files contain applications, financial records, and correspondence. The correspondence is that of the scholarship recipients, the staffs of the institutions where the recipients were placed, the DWMIC staff responsible for the recipients' countries of origin, and church officials of the countries of origin. Some of the students were sponsored jointly by TALC and the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). These were students initially screened by the Lutheran World Federation, with funds requested from the church bodies. The first file in Box 2 contains a list of such students for whom files can be found in LCA scholarship records (see LCA 28/3/7).
